   To say that spiritual practice only works occasionally is no different than saying that my car works occasionally.
   
   If my car only works occasionally, in truth, it isn't working (as it should).
   
   To make this sort of statement only reveals that you have no evidence supporting the efficacy of spiritual practice, as it were.

   Thanks for your comment. I was not arguing for or against spiritual practice, but just inviting an open curiosity about the mystery of awakening. It is my experience that everything affects consciousness (that is why we call it consciousness, because it is affected by things), so spiritual practice will definitely affect your consciousness whether it appears to be working or not, just as your car working or not working will both have an effect on your consciousness.
   
   And so the question of efficiency is much more complex than it might seem. Where is consciousness trying to get to, and does it want to get there efficiently or rather in a myriad of ways that include the least efficient imaginable?
